Yes! If you’d like to recommend skills for students to focus on, you can use the Suggested Skills feature, which highlights selected skills to your students.
To suggest a skill as a teacher:
- Sign in to your teacher account.
- From Learning, select a subject and year level (or topic).
- When you find a skill you'd like to highlight, click on the star icon to suggest it to all of your students.
- If you'd like to suggest the skill to specific students, hover over the star to open the drop-down menu.
- From the star drop-down menu, you can select your entire roster, specific classes or individual students:
- For groups, click on the star next to the class name or All students for your entire roster.
- For individual students, click on the group name in the drop-down menu, and then click on the star next to each student you'd like to include.
To remove a skill suggestion for a student or group, just click on the star in the drop-down menu again. To remove a skill suggestion completely, click on the star next to the skill; the star will be grey when it is no longer suggested to anyone. A skill with a yellow star indicates the skill is suggested to all students on your roster. A skill with a partially filled-in star indicates the skill is suggested to at least one of your students.
Students will see a yellow star next to any skill that you have suggested to them.
To suggest a skill as a parent:
- Sign in to your parent account.
- From Learning, select a subject and year level (or topic).
- When you find a skill you’d like to highlight, do the following:
- If you would like to suggest this skill to all of your children, click on the star.
- If you would like to suggest this skill to a specific child, hover over the star and click on the star next to their name.
Whether you are a teacher or parent, suggest as many skills as you like! Students can always practise any skill on IXL, but the yellow stars help direct their efforts.
